Saturday, April 30, 2016 - Save The Trees
Continuing with the Men's Club conservation efforts, it is necessary that we remove many of the wire cages from around common area trees that were installed 3-6 years ago. For you newbies, this was done to prevent deer from ruining tree bark and having the trees die. Over 600 trees were protected. The 6" diameter cages are now too small. The community landscaper tells me that many of the first batch of trees that were protected are mature enough to not need cages, and certainly those cages stunting growth should be removed.
In addition, there are areas of new tree planting within the community.
So, here's what we need-about 20+ volunteers (hopefully many from the original crew) to walk the community (areas to be assigned to two man teams) and remove cages from the older trees and install them on the newer unprotected ones. I have area maps to assign specific locations. All you need would be gloves and pliers/snippers. We are meeting in the main parking lot on 4/30 at 9:30AM, weather permitting. Please e-mail me if you can help.

Thursday, May 19, 2016 - Shuffle Along
In May 1921, the new musical Shuffle Along became the unlikeliest of hits, significantly altering the face of the Broadway musical, as well as that of New York City. By the time Shuffle Along stumbled into town after a back-breaking pre-Broadway tour, it was deeply in debt and set to open at a remote Broadway house on West 63rd Street. But with an infectious jazz score and exuberant dancing, Shuffle Along ignited not just Broadway, but all of New York City. Because of Shuffle Along, Uptown and Downtown met — and became one.
The 2016 Shuffle Along, created anew by a remarkable constellation of artists, brings the original show back to a glorious life, while simultaneously telling the heretofore unknown backstage saga of its creation — and how it changed the world it left behind.
Cost: $150.00 per person
Time: Leave the Clubhouse 3pm - back approx. 11:00 pm

The story is set in the Upper West Side neighborhood in New York City in the mid-1950s, an ethnic, blue-collar neighborhood. The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The members of the Sharks, from Puerto Rico, are taunted by the Jets, a white gang. The young protagonist, Tony, a former member of the Jets and best friend of the gang leader, Riff, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. The dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes, and focus on social problems marked a turning point in American musical theater.
